Question from chinoisfemme: So has this resulted in weight loss? Do clothes fit better etc? Are you exercising? Inquiring minds want to know =)
Answer: By eating mostly "clean" for two weeks I've lost about 5 pounds. Mostly it's water weight because my regular diet keeps me so bloated! So yes, clothes fit better but I always hit a plateau unless I add regular workouts. Right now I'm doing "light" workouts on the weekends to maintain but hoping to see a change once I get better about my eating and start a regular (more intense) workout on the weekdays! I just haven't figured out how to balance wellness with work stress, I don't know how you do it! :)
Also looking forward to Paleo once I'm done with my clean detox! Esp with all your food pics and recipes...
Ooops
I had such a stressful day today that I completely FORGOT about my eating plan. As the day progressed I just started eating what I was given, luckily most of the food was clean appropriate.
Breakfast: Chocolate raspberry shake
Lunch: Half of a turkey, brie and cranberry sandwich on multi-grain bread and caesar salad
Snack: Almonds and cashews
Dinner: Fried chicken, grilled fish and Indonesian...
Stress Eating
Dinner: 12-pack of Chick-Fil-A Nuggets
I know it’s battered in flour. I know it’s deep fried in peanut oil. I know it has a million mgs of sodium. But when you’ve had the stressful workday that I have (and it’s 10pm and still going…) you want to eat what you want to eat. I grabbed a 12-pack of nuggets on the way home (knowing there wasn’t anything at home...
Hungry at Work
Breakfast: Chocolate shake with almond milk
Snack: Handful of honeyed sesame almonds
Lunch: Brown rice pasta with chicken, cauliflower and mushrooms (leftovers)
Snack: 2 cups of green tea
Snack: A bowl full of casava chips
I am EXTREMELY hungry today. The pasta was even better as leftovers, but didn’t leave me satisfied. My co-worker suggested drinking some hot tea and “giving it...
Sunday
Breakfast: Chocolate shake with almond milk
Lunch: Egg white omelet with grilled chicken, spinach, onions and mushroom and side of fruit
*I made a few little cheats here. The omelet was probably fried in butter and had a little bit of cheese in it. And secondly, it was an omelet! With egg! I was at a breakfast diner with a bunch of friends so I had to come to some middle ground. And the third...
Weekend Mod
Woke up too late for breakfast again. Also decided that on weekends I’m going to do one shake and two meals as opposed to two shakes and one meal. I only have less than half of the shakes left anyway since I’m continuing on the clean detox I never finished in October. >.<
Breakfast: Zzzzz
Lunch: Chicken curry with green beans, carrots and mushrooms on brown rice.
Dinner: Roast chicken,...
Friday Workout
Convinced myself that I can eat a couple veggie dumplings if I do my workout so I did:
• 1 hr Bar Method Designer Sculpt
• 1/2 hr Crunch Bootcamp
Thank goodness for AppleTV and fitness DVDs on Netflix Instant Play. :)
I don’t even feel like eating anymore…
Should I eat veggie dumplings??
Boring
Breakfast: Blueberry shake
Lunch: Salmon, green beans and brown rice
Snack: Basil lemon cashews and dried fruit
Dinner: Peach shake with almond milk
This weekend I need to look up some yummy recipes and go major grocery shopping. The weekdays are super boring and full of leftovers or “instant” meals. I’m craving roast duck, chicken tawook and my flaxseed pretzels dipped...
chinoisfemme:
News story about Tyson (of Tyson Chicken) passing from ‘complications of cancer’ today made me think of this film again. If you haven’t seen this yet, please do. If you care about your health, watch this film.
Food, Inc. starts with this line. “The way eat has changed more in the last 50 years than in the last 10,000”.
“Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of...
Clean Day 1
Breakfast: I woke up super late today so I missed breakfast.
Lunch: Clean Shake + Supplements
Snack: Thai Basil Cashews
Dinner: Salmon, green beans and brown rice
My knee hasn’t fully recovered yet so I’m going to keep it low-key and do an hour of pilates tonight. Hopefully by publishing my intent, it actually happens tonight. :)
Pre-Cleanse Day 3 of 3
Breakfast: Cranberry goji juice
Lunch: Artichoke and palm of hearts salad with raspberry vinaigrette
Snack: Mixed nuts and dried fruit
Late Snack: Apple
Dinner: 2 Chicken meatballs, healthy portion of brussels sprouts and (ahem) pancetta.
My knee is still in pain and my shoulder has joined the chorus. Going to take a long, hot bath and go to bed early.
Pre-Cleanse Day 2 of 3
Breakfast: Cranberry goji juice
Lunch: Arugula & mushroom salad
Dinner: Chicken and mushroom soup, mustard greens and brown rice
Dessert: Dried mangos
Snack: Almonds, cashews and dried cranberries
It totally helps that I’ve been so busy with meetings today that I don’t have time to sit hungry at my desk. I’m going grocery shopping tonight after work to stock up on fresh...
So what is Clean?
Clean is a 3-week “detox” program that provides a set breakfast and dinner and leaves lunch open to whatever you want to eat, as long as it’s on the list of “allowed foods”. There is a 3-day Pre-Cleanse (that I’m on right now) where you eat 3 meals a day on the allowed foods list to prep your system for the detox.
The allowed foods basically eliminate foods...
Pre-Cleanse Day 1 of 3
Breakfast: Miso soup
Lunch: Arugula & mushroom salad
Snack: Apple
Dinner: Grilled chicken skewers, smoked chicken wings, smoked salmon lettuce cups and roasted sweet potatoes. [organic, sustainable & local]
Snack: Dried cuttlefish
Not sure if cuttlefish is allowed but oh well, I need to chew. :) Also had about 4 cups of black tea — not sure if black tea is allowed as it was not...
EA Sports Active 2 on Kinect
Just completed my first workout on Active 2. I’m so embarrassed to say it kicked my butt, even moreso than the 1 hr Bar Method DVD and 1/2 hour Crunch Bootcamp DVD combined on Saturday night.
The coolest thing about this game is the heart rate monitor which is a good way to keep yourself motivated throughout the workout as you see your heart rate spike during the cardio activities....
Pre-Pre-Clean
Tomorrow I go back on Clean. Today, I eat through as many groceries on the ‘not allowed’ list as I can.
Breakfast: nothing
(Must really work on eating breakfast this year!)
Lunch: Roast chicken melt on rye.
Snack: Various misshapen cookies from my New Years’ batch.
Dinner: Spaghetti and mushrooms in alfredo sauce.
Post-dinner: Roast chicken melt on rye again.
Cycling in Venice
Took advantage of the few hours of sun we had left today before the first storm of 2011 by taking our bikes up to LA and riding to the beach. Kidnapped my sister and rode down Venice to Abbot Kinney for a light snack at 3 Square Cafe. It was a brisk 50 degrees on the way there but the temperature dropped as the sunset on our way back and it got COLD. It felt good to be outside and breathing fresh...

Tweets I Dislike
Any airport tweet. "LAX --> XXX" "Boarding my plane!" "Sitting in the plane!" "There is wi-fi on this plane!"
http: //bit.ly/justalink
Any @mashable tweet. Maybe it would be better if they change that awful profile pic.
Just had dinner/coffee/a great talk with @person1 @person2 @person3 @person4 @person5. Twitter is not a roll call.
@Foursquare check-ins at any workplace. We get that you're at work. Everyday.
Over-dramatically vague tweets. And self-pity tweets.
RT Apple sells 1/2/3/4 million iPads.
Usage of acronyms that only you and your co-workers know. "Just reviewed a DBT at the NVPTO meeting today."
The #incessant #misuse of #unnecessary #hashtags.
Up there. A beautifully-shot documentary about sign painting.
